West Hertfordshire NHS Trust hopes its latest IT upgrade will allow staff to view aggregate patient data in a single portal.

The Trust has selected the <a href="/directory/carefx" target="_blank" class="directory-item-link"><a href="/directory/carefx" target="_blank" class="directory-item-link">Carefx Fusionfx solution suite for the upgrade, the strategy of which is to "Connect All" rather than "Replace All." The solution offers secure, streamlined access to applications and patient data in real time, according to a Carefx press release.

"As a busy clinician running the largest Acute Admission Unit in the country, having patient information available at a glance is an essential requirement," said David Gaunt, MD, A&E consultant and clinical director, emergency care at West Hertfordshire.

Watford General, St. Albans City and Hemel Hempstead are the three hospitals within the Trust that will use the portal. The portal brings together data from several systems and applications, providing multidisciplinary teams with data, test results and images. These applications include Clinicom, Infoflex, Sunquest and Agfa.

"This implementation is the culmination of 15 years' work around delivering patient data to the clinical staff within the Trust as and when they require it," said Sue Gunn, head of clinical and business applications at West Hertfordshire. " By removing unnecessary workflow steps and making access to applications simpler, this project reflects how IT can innovate around how we support patient care in the clinical arena."

Fusionfx is implemented in 700 healthcare organizations in North America, Europe and China. The standards-based, Web services-oriented portal does not require users to periodically synchronize data into a new repository.
